I've been a guest (and attendee) at both kinds, and both are enormous fun, but eating breakfast with a Klingon in full gear is a little bit disconcerting the first time. And then there's the question of where to allow one's gaze when trying to have a serious conversation with a (very) partially clothed Xena Warrior Princess.<BR/><BR/>But the conversations can be amazing. Somewhere like ICFA (International Conference for the Fantastic in the Arts) is practically perfect. I can also recommend WisCon, which is a feminist sf convention with a very strong academic programming track. SF readers (and writers) very often have an affinity for history.<BR/><BR/>Ah, but I'm in danger of thread-jacking this conversation. My apologies. I'll stop here.
