Coining Words: Blognoramus

The Gypsy Scholar has a post about coining a new word -- but he gets it wrong! Now, I've previously posted regarding the right of English professors to coin new words, but you can't hide your light under a bushel; after coining the word, you actually have to use it, or it doesn't count. So, Gypsy Scholar, you are halfway there ... you just have to use the word in public, and define it.

Here, let me demonstrate by coining a new word here:

blognoramus (blog.no.ra.mus) n. An ignorant blogger; someone who frequently blogs stupid things: Dr. Nokes might occasionally blog something interesting, but in general he is a blognoramus.

All done. New word neatly coined. See how easy it is?

[Editor's note: I had included a nice dictionary etymology at the end of the entry, but Blogger keeps mistaking all the odd marks for bad html coding. The limits of the medium, I guess.]

  1. Well . . . I did actually use zwalg, evpbaukq, ohfazszl, pnugmpjy, and affnwijn, so perhaps these now count as words?

Yeah, I know that I didn't so much use them as 'mention' them . . . though I attempted to use the last three.

at first i thought you were going to say it meant someone who is ignorant of blogs, which, i think, needs its own word. Unfortunately, I haven't had enough brain juice this morning to think of one myself.
