England Defeated by French Invaders at Hastings ... again

A couple of weeks ago, Steve Muhlberger linked to a BBC article about a re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings. I didn't comment on it here, mostly out of disappointment that there was no video, but he has since found someone's photos of the event.

You'd think that the Anglo-Saxons would have figured out how to defeat the Normans by now, but reports are that the Normans plan a long occupation of the island.

  1. Sorry, but every time I hear about a military reenactment in Britain I think of the Monty Pythons in drag hitting each other with handbags and rolling around in the sand.

  2. I wonder how many times that's been re-enacted?

  3. On a BBC site recently I saw a picture labelled "Khariji re-enactors" showing a bunch of guys on camels in traditional desert warrior outfits.

The Khariji were the guys who originally supported Ali as Caliph but then turned against him when he compromised with his enemies instead of holding to the hard line. Then a Khariji assassinated Ali.

    Who re-enacts this?
