Auden's Grip & Large Canon

This isn't even slightly medieval, but one of my colleagues and I had a long Beavis-and-Butthead laugh about this review on Auden's Collected Poems:

"Auden, who gripped me in my teens, has a large canon..."

What do you think? Intentional double-entendre or not?
