A Trend I Want to Encourage

According to this article, swords are making a comeback. Ah yes, an elegant weapon of a more civilized age ... the days when you couldn't didn't cap someone from across the street, you did it up close and personal. Unless, of course, you had a longbow, but I haven't seen any stories about an uptick in longbow sales.

In a perfect world, I'd wear my academic regalia to class, with a sword concealed beneath. The first time a student turned in a paper with subject-verb disagreement, I'd go Belushi-samurai on his desk. Now THAT'S education!

  1. Dr. J. D. Michaelis, Father of the modern New Testament Introduction, was known for wearing a sword to class, even for public lectures. Of course, that was a few centuries ago...

I have full confidence in your ability to pull it off.

  2. Nokes: "The thesis of your paper offends the vary fabric of nature! Revise and rewrite!"

Student: "Just give me my grade, I have more important things to worry about than an English paper. What good is this going to do for me in the real world?"

Nokes: "Let us let God decide your fate. Draw your blade or choose a Champion."

Python: I'm afraid you can't expect to wield supreme editorial power, just because some watery tart threw a sword at you. /Python

Do I get a broadsword in this system?

  4. The exact weapon is your own decision. Though I like the heft of a broadsword, when it comes to my actual fighting style, I'm more of a rapier man.
