Prof. Awesome, Ph.D., comes to SMCA

As my alter-ego of Professor Awesome, Ph.D., I did a little community service today by delivering a lecture on Beowulf at the South Montgomery County Academy in Grady, Alabama. Note the rapt attention of the students, hanging on my every word. Though it appears that they are struggling to retain consciousness, do not be fooled; they are in fact deep in thought, contemplating the profundity of my insights into the poem.

In fact, the kid on the left is thinking SO hard that he's struggling to keep his brain from popping out of his skull!

Actually, what I love about this picture is how good a time you seem to be having. You appear genuinely excited about what you're teaching, despite the malaise surrounding you.

  3. Yeah ... I probably shouldn't have said that. I just hope I didn't get the teacher in trouble.

  4. The just-off-frame student's hand on his hip seems to suggest that he doesn't buy your interpretation of Beowulf as a prefigure to 24's Jack Bauer.

"Brokeback boy" is the one struggling to stay awake on the front row. =P Poor kid. Dr. Nokes has scarred him for life. If I lose my job over this, I'm blaming you, Dr. Nokes. =D
